KH271 Ultrasonic Hardness Tester

Check hardness where a larger test setup is difficult to use: along a flange edge, inside a gear groove or on a finished metal part. The KH271 uses the ultrasonic contact impedance (UCI) method and a handheld probe to take readings on suitable surfaces. The 3.5-inch IPS color display shows the Vickers value alongside a selected converted scale, so you can review the result at the workpiece.

What makes the KH271 useful

  • Calibrate for the material: multi-point calibration with your reference hardness samples helps set up testing for materials with different elastic properties.
  • Work with specific parts: the listed applications include flanges, gear grooves, stamped parts, shafts, thin-walled pipes and surface-hardened areas, subject to probe and workpiece requirements.
  • Save the inspection record: store up to 600 sets of measurements, including values, average, date, probe type and material information.
  • Flag results outside limits: set upper and lower hardness thresholds for an automatic alarm during batch testing.
  • Connect to a computer: USB 2.0 supports data exchange and parameter settings.
  • Adapt the probe: automatic or manual probe identification and hot-swap support; other test-force probes are optional.

Probe selection and test conditions

The standard package includes a 2 kgf (20 N) manual probe. Its listed surface requirement is Ra <5 μm, with a minimum workpiece weight of 0.3 kg and thickness of 2 mm. A 1 kgf (10 N) probe for finer surfaces and a 5 kgf (50 N) probe for other applications are listed as optional. Keep the probe perpendicular to the test surface during measurement. Confirm the probe force and material setup suit the part before testing.

Technical specifications

  • Measurement method: ultrasonic contact impedance (UCI).
  • Displayed scales: HV plus selected HB, HRB, HRC or HRA conversion; applicable conversions depend on material and calibration.
  • Listed materials: steel and cast steel, cast aluminum alloy and pure copper, with three user material settings.
  • Display: 3.5-inch IPS color LCD, 480 × 320 resolution.
  • Power: 3.7 V lithium-ion battery pack; listed continuous operation approximately 10 hours.
  • Charging supply: 5 V / 1000 mA.

Standard package

KH271 main unit, 2 kgf probe, probe cable, 5 V power adapter, standard test block and carrying case. Other probe forces are optional.
